Meltblown

Meltblown

Meltblown Polypropylene is the most widely used absorbent by industry today due to its lightweight, high absorbency and ease of acquisition. Polypropylene absorbents are configured into a variety of sizes, shapes, and colors, and are deployed strategically to contain and adsorb accidental spills. We can help you choose the right absorbent for your specific situation.

Rocky Mountain Environmental distributes various grades of polypropylene absorbents including Meltblown, Sonic Bonded, Laminated and Fine Fiber:

Meltblown – The industry standard for spill response. Great value and sound performance. What these absorbents lack in durability they make up for in economy.

Sonic Bonded – The same as Meltblown but sonically bonded for additional strength. Use where more durability is required in a pad.

Laminated – A tough, spun bond cover is added to reduce lint and increase durability. When in doubt choose these. Ideal around food processing, bench tops, machinery and where minimal “lint” is a concern.

Absorbent Products:

Pads – Used on water or land and will adsorb from 15 to 25 times their weight depending on variables such as temperature, viscosity and type of product spilled.

Socks – Used mostly around equipment which requires an absorbent that can bend and conform around things. A mainstay in our kits because of their ability to rapidly contain small spills. Use to redirect flow or contain a spill from spreading.

Booms – Almost exclusively used for marine-based spills. Standard in 10′ sections that rapidly clip together to form any length. Available in 5″ and 8″ diameter. Used to contain water borne spills.

Pillows – Usually deployed under large leaks as they can hold sizable quantities of fluid. Because of this ability, they are found in all our spill kits.

Rolls – Used on bench tops, under leaking machinery or vehicles, on shorelines when spills reach land or as a general maintenance product that you can cut to any length you require.

Sweeps – These 19″ wide x 100′ long, laminated absorbents have a nylon webbing running the entire length at the top for additional strength and to allow responders to polish the water in the final steps of cleanup, removing the oil sheen from the surface.

Bilge Bugs – Use in oil water separators, sumps, catch basins and bilges to adsorb collected oil. They are 5″ diameter x 15″ or 8” x 18” with a loop on one end for tie-down and retrieval.

Industrial Rugs – Facilities use these long, wide and durable sorbent rolls to keep floors and outside areas clean.

Description

Sorbent Selection – the chart below will assist you with some basic information to help you determine what your spill response needs are and will enable you to take the first step in ensuring a safe working environment and environmental responsibility.

Factors to consider:
What types of spills do I need to prepare for?
What types of liquids are used?
How much may spill?
Can I contain a spill?
